File Listing and Testing Software : Common Header Database
Whilst the file list is running, if the software comes up against a file it thinks is corrupt or there is no information in the database about the extension type, it is checked against a list of common header information. For example, there are many file formats that use the Microsoft OLE document headers, so if a file is found to match a common file, it is highlighted in the file list that it 'Matches that of file type Microsoft Office OLE File'
As these files can be identified, they can be filtered and put through the database editing functionality to see if actual header information can be added for this particular file type.
The common headers database is another tool that helps speed up the file identification process.
