File Listing and Testing Software : Working with the database
|The Database is the heart of the file listing and testing software. New headers can be added manually or once a file list is complete, then you can update the database in semi-automatic mode.
Each database entry consists of a file extension type e.g. jpg, then the header information that matches these files can be stored within the database. There can be as many entries as needed for each file type. An example of multi-types could be TIFF images where the header usually starts with the text 'MM' or 'II' so both these entries can be added, then whichever one is found, there will be a match and the file marked as good.

When using the database after running a file list, enables you to work on live data. Files that are marked as corrupt, unknown or files found to have common headers can be edited and terms added to or edited in the database.
Much of the process is semi automatic so you can enter terms, test it against the current files list and add those that match. Any changes are reflected in the current file list meaning you don't have to run the whole process again. The software comes with a default database ready for use or you can start your own database from scratch.
